Nutritional Status and Severity Correlation Of COPD Patients Admitted in Tertiary Care Hospital

Background: Malnourishment is highly prevalent among COPD patients. The study was carried out to assess the nutritional status of hospital admitted patients evaluate relationships between indices and pulmonary function parameters with severity correlation. Methods: A cross-sectional observational done constituting 50 spirometryproven at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Lung measured by routine spirometry. Anthropometric measures, biochemical parameters, Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) score were used for assessment. Results: Mean age population 64.31 years.22% (n = 11), 42% 21) 32% 16) & 4% 2) stage I, II, III IV respectively.According MNA scalethe malnourished 46% 23), risk malnutrition 40% 20) normal 14% 7).13 found according BMI scale in I 15.38% 2), II 38.46% 5), 5) 7.69% 1). Mid arm circumference (MAC), mid-calf (MCC), showed a significant decline mean value increasing stages COPD. correlation FEV1 (R2 0.087 p value= 0.038), body weight 0.173 0.003), MUAC (R2: 0.202, 0.001) 0.144 0.007).
